Compete in P1 Ribs

The ideal class to provide a great foundation for racing in future years.

Rules

Powerboat P1’s RIB racing is sanctioned at international level by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the world governing body for the sport of powerboat racing. Final rules are under development and will be based largely on the successful and robust P1 SuperStock rulebook with obvious changes
to minimum boat weight and other
class-specific requirements.

Prize money & points

A prize fund will be made available for each event and will pay out to competitors finishing in the first five places in the overall standings at the end of each race weekend.

On-site tech support

Powerboat P1 will offer on-site technical support for both the RIB and the engine
to assist competitors in getting to the start line for every race.

Typical Training Requirements

To compete in the P1 International RIB Championship in the UK, competitors will
need the following:

  • RYA Level II – a basic to intermediate boat-handling course over two days
  • Race Training – training as a race driver or navigator through an approved school
  • Medical – both driver and navigator will be required to undergo a medical
  • RYA Race Licence – issued annually by the RYA’s Powerboat Racing department
  • VHF Licence – at least one crew member must hold a valid VHF radio licence
  • Dunk Test – an underwater escape test staged by Andark in Southampton
  • Safety Equipment – this includes race overalls, helmet, lifejacket and in-boat comms
